Come antiquing with me! My latest antiques haul and how I styled my buys in the family home
I’ve always loved thrifting and finding new treasures for my family home. Come see my latest purchases and find out how to score a deal on furniture, art and more!
I love visiting antique shops (especially outside of London where you can usually find better deals!). There’s something special about buying a functional piece of furniture that adds a truly unique personality to your living space. Each piece has a story to tell, a history behind it and I love being a collector of those memories. What’s more, I love the sustainable aspect of filling my family home with quality pieces that are built to last a lifetime, which may otherwise have ended up in landfill.
I also think it’s important (from an interiors point of view) to fill your home with some vintage pieces from different eras to avoid your home looking too dated. Imagine if you filled your living room from everything in the Marks & Spencer’s catalogue? Chances are it’s going to look trendy to begin with but, within a couple of years, everything will look a little passé. That’s because everything would look fitting for that time, but with contemporary design constantly changing what might look good 8 years ago, will more often than not look a bit naff now.

So when I found myself in Lincolnshire visiting friends for the rainy bank holiday weekend, they were more than happy to oblige my request to visit an antiques shop (they love a vintage find too!). We ended up spending a couple of hours at St. Martin’s Antiques Centre in Stamford.
So, what did I buy any how have I styled them?
1. Wooden magazine holder, £10

I saw this pine magazine stand and immediately thought of my youngest daughter Lily’s bedroom. We’re hoping to adapt an Ikea Kallax unit into an upholstered bench reading corner in her bedroom this autumn. And, while we have already put up wall shelves to display her books, we also want her to have easy access to her current reading list – and a magazine holder on the floor is perfect for this. I’ve given it a quick wipe down, but I might add some colour to it with paint to match the rest of the interior. What do you think?
2. Table-top book shelf, £12

I constantly have a pile of books on my bedside table. So when I saw this table top shelf I thought it would add a nice touch to our recently decorated bedroom and help keep my bedside table clutter-free. BUT, I also think it will look great as a cookbook holder in our kitchen once it’s renovated. I love buying multi-use pieces that can move around my home when I need to give a space a refresh!
