Hi, we’re mums and journalists Charlotte Luxford and Sophie Vening.

With more than 30 years' experience in the homes and interiors industry between us, we’ve seen our fair share of aspirational homes, writing for national newspapers and magazines including Grand Designs (where we first met), The Times, The Guardian, Ideal Home and Livingetc. However, we felt something was missing – a magazine that focused solely on family-friendly homes, architecture and design, as well as all the crumbs, mud and spillages in between.

When we started our families, it made us look at interiors in a new way. Storage for stashing the toys suddenly seemed a top priority. We looked at fabrics differently and questioned whether they would stain or be hardwearing. Stunning marble coffee tables now appeared dangerous rather than demure (especially when you’ve got toddlers running around). And so the idea to create Nest magazine was hatched, launching in 2023.

Why should you subscribe, and what do you get?

By becoming a paid subscriber, you will receive our weekly newsletter in your inbox every Friday, so you will never miss an update. We’ll cover the nitty gritty of how you can create a truly kid-friendly family home that will adapt and evolve as your family grows, ensuring it’s designed to last.

We’ll be chatting to some of the top experts in the industry to get their insider advice, plus we’ll be taking you on tours through some of our favourite family homes where you’ll be able to steal their ideas and find out how to get the look.

Plus, you’ll gain exclusive access to our own homes and DIY projects revealing the highs and the lows, the dos and the don’ts, the mistakes and the wins!

How much does it cost?

For just £4.99 a month (think of it as buying us both a much-needed coffee!) or just £49.99 a year, you’ll get:

  • Subscriber-only posts at least once a week direct to your inbox

  • Full access to Nest’s archive content

  • Exclusive discount offers and competitions

  • Ability to post comments on our posts and join Nest’s member-only chats & Q&A sessions over on the Substack app

We know it might not be affordable for everyone, which is why we’ll still be offering the occasional free public post to our free subscribers, whether that’s a buyer’s guide, exciting family-friendly home tour, or an edit of our favourite kid-friendly buys.

Journalism is our way of making a living and while we wish we could continue writing for free, those extortionate nursery fees aren’t going to pay for themselves!

How can you support our work?

In these early days, we’s really appreciate any shares and recommendations as we grow our Substack community.
